DAS KAPITAL

The meeting of the three creative minds of Das Kapital in 2002 was explosive, centered around free improvised concerts as the cornerstone of what is now a clearly identifiable sound: the use of elements heard in rock, pop and jazz music put together in surprising ways, mixed up with the sounds from experimental, electronic and contemporary classical music. In the first years Das Kapital played exclusively improvised concerts, and released a homemade 4 CD box in 99 copies (2005), and the “real” CD “All Gods have Children” (2006).
The group took up a repertoire of the famous composer Hanns Eisler in 2009. The First Das Kapital plays Hanns Eisler album, “Ballads & Barricades” earned prestigious Jahrespreis by the German Jazz Critics in 2011. The follower “Conflicts & Conclusions” appeared to equal critical acclaim, leading to more challenging invitations, such as presenting their original “Hymn to Democracy” project in Grenoble in March 2012.
