EUROPEAN SAXOPHONE ENSEMBLE

The European Saxophone Ensemble brings together twelve young saxophone players from twelve different countries (from Serbia – Luka Ignjatović, alto saxophone). The repertoire selected by artistic director Guillaume Orti was especially written and taught to the Ensemble by five challenging composers: Ronan Guilfoyle, Alan Hilario, Kari Ikonen, Ingrid Laubrock and Stéphane Payen. In these compositions improvisation and rhythm takes a prominent role as a means for the different saxophonists to express themselves as individuals and as a group. The saxophonists, aged between 18 and 34 years old, come from different musical backgrounds: from virtuous contemporary music soloist to punk baritone saxophonist player, from jazz tenor saxophonist to afro-soul Scandinavian baritone, from chamber soprano to alto playing in Eastern European traditional ensembles… A very exciting ensemble full of positive energy, with an incredible group sound! ESE has the title of Cultural Ambassador of the European Union.
