MIKOLAJ TRZASKA & RAFAL MAZUR

Mikołaj Trzaska is one of the founders of the “yass” scene in Poland (yass being a combination of new wave, free jazz, modern rock, and poetry). He was a long-time member of the jazz group Miłość (1992-2001). After leaving the band he concentrated on work with his own group Łoskot and solo projects. He worked with Lester Bowie, Tomasz Stańko, Joe McPhee, Taylor Ho Bynum, Peter Brötzmann, Clementine Gasser and Ken Vandermark „Resonanse“. Trzaska recorded more than 40 albums, half of them his own self-composed projects.
Rafał Mazur’s main field of interest is collective and solo free/spontaneous improvisation. Together with Keir Neuringer, he founded Improviser’s Ensemble, followed by Improvising Artists, an association of musicians who create improvised music. He is also a founder of the ImproArt studio of improvisation and organizer of the Laboratory of Intuition, a series of spontaneous art presentations in Kraków. His current focus is the band Ensemble 56, as well as a duo with Keir Neuringer.
