Stankovic Music School in Belgrade was founded in 1911 within the Singing Association „Stankovic“. The school was named after Kornelije Stankovic, a famous Serbian composer, pianist and a choir master. The first school principal was Stanislav Binicki. In 1947 the school became the public institution, and gained the rank of secondary school. In 1993, the school founded the first Jazz Department in Southeast Europe on the high school level. This department became an example to many similar institutions from Serbia and the region. Since its rebirth in 2005, the Belgrade Jazz Festival has worked with the school though numerous workshops, introducing students with the guests of Belgrade Jazz Festival. These young talents will again have a chance to hear useful advice from internationally acclaimed jazz masters. Two combos of the most talented students of the school will traditionally perform at this year’s festival.
